Geçtiğimiz ay sayın Yalçın Granit’in hayatını ve Türkiye’de  basketbolunun nasıl başladığını anlatan bir kitap çıktı ADANMAK ..

Beni yakından tanıyanlar bilir, basketbolu ve kitapları çok severim. 

Henüz yıldız takım oyuncusuyken basketbol ile ilgili bulduğum her kitabı alırdım ,Adanmak adlı kitap çıktıktan sonra elimde neler kalmış diye şöyle bir kontrol ettim ve arkadaki raflarda beş altı tanesinin halen durdurduğunu gördüm.  

Özellikle paramparça olan bir tanesi var ki okurken çok etkilendiğimi hatırlıyorum. Basit bir dille yazılmış olan ve oyunculara öğüt veren bu kitap WALT FRAIZER ’e ait.

Bu gün halen yorumculuk yapan ,geçmişte NBA’nın en iyi savunmacılarından biri olan o renkli adamın kitabı..

Walt o zaman NBA ‘de karşısına çıkan guardları tutarken nelere dikkat ettiğini anlatıyor. Bu bölümde bazı ilginç isimler gördüm ve ilginizi çekeceğini düşündüm.

Guarding the NBA’s Best Guards

LENNIE WILKENS ,

Cleveland : "He’s  one of those guards who’s quicker then me , so I give him a extra step. I mean, I may be three or four steps away from him, instead of two- what ever you have to do to compensate for his speed. You can’t crowd him. Lennie is all left. The problem is keeping him to his right. I give him that whole right side. He tries to suck you in, fake and come back. But I don’t go for that. I just stay in my same position, giving him a lot of room. Lenie’s not that good of an outside shot, so I drop off him, maybe give him a shot. But there are very few guys you can do that to. Most guys are good quick shooters. And when I say lay off an extra step or so, that’s only if they are out of shooting range. If they are at the top of circle I can’t step back. I have to get up on them. Otherwise they shoot.

Lennie basically looks for the drive. And he looks for picks. So you got to get over the pick. Talking and helping out, that comes with team defense. This takes him out of pattern because his main thing is driving. He’ll fake right one or two dribbles, then quick he’ll come back left. Even though I know all this, know his moves, a lot of times I can’t stop him."

GAIL GOODRICH,

Los Angeles : "Solak ,çok hızlı, fakat Wilkens kadar değil ancak daha iyi şutör. Ona aynı Bill Bradley’e yaptığım gibi çok yakın oynarım."

CALVIN MURPHY,

Houston: "Right-handed. Fast, Good shot. Force him left. Give him that extra step because he can go around you."

NATE ARCHIBALD,

KC – Omaha: "Present a big problem. He’s great ball-handler. Unselfish. No one man can stop him. He has to be double-teamed. A very effective driver, so you need help from your center. Try to make him give the ball up.  He is lefty. Other wise I play him same way as Murphy."

OSCAR ROBERSON,

Milwaukee: "Dick Barnett bana şöyle söylemişti ; eğer Oscar’ın 12 foot’dan şut atmasına izin verirsen o, 10 foot için üzerine gelir. 10 foot için izin verirsen 8 e gelir 8 verirsen 6, 4 verirsen 2 ye, onun ne yapmak istediğin anladın mı bebek ?  amacı turnike atmaktır onun…

Oscar müthiştir, gerçi biraz yaşlandı ve biraz yavaşladı . Ancak halen şutunu durdurmak çok zor, zamanlaması muazzam ve çok yukardan atıyor. Bire bir oynarken arkasını döndüğünde üzerinize yüklenerek kilosunu kullanıyor, yüzünü dönünce ise çabukluğunu..

Ben ona karşı oynarken temas ederek oynamayı tercih ediyorum. Çünkü; temas etmesen zaten nerede olduğumu biliyor, ben bump yapmasam zaten o bump yapıyor. Topa vurmaya kalkışmıyorum çünkü hemen ceza veriyor . Tüm yapmaya çalıştığım,onu iterek çemberden uzak tutmaya çalışmak aynı center savunması gibi…"

PETE MARAVICH,

Atlanta: "You try to get him angry at him self, so you pressure him. If he makes a bad pass  or you steal it from him you might be able to break downcourt for an easy layup because  he’s  at the other end talking himself . And with his hair flaying, you sort of wait for him stop dribbling. Then for a second all the hair that’s been flaying in the wind comes down over his face and he can’t see. That’s when you steal the ball . He can make the most incredible shots. When he’s hot, you just have to wait until the hurricane lets up."

JERRY WEST,

Los Angeles: "West Robertson’dan daha hızlıdır ve ondan daha uzaktan şut atabilir, aynı zamanda drive da edebilir. Sağ elini kullanır. Onu tutarken bir adım geride kalıp sola doğru sürmek lazım. Gerçi iki tarafa da gidebilir ancak sol tarafın az da olsa bana avantaj sağladığını düşünüyorum. Böyle mükemmel bir oyuncuyu tamamen durdurmak imkansız. Önemli olan onu her zamanki averajının altında tutmak. Şu atarken çok hızlıdır bu nedenle elimi yüzünü doğru tutarım. Ondan çok top çalmaya çalıştım ancak çok faul aldım bu nedenle ona karşı oynarken hamle yapmamak için kendimle savaşırım."
